A U.S. government agency has purchased access to the Inmarsat Global Xpress satellite communications service via a sales agreement with field communications firm DataPath to represent the latter company’s first such deal in the federal market.
Inmarsat’s GX network resides in the Ka frequency band and is designed to support voice, video and data applications in operating environments, DataPath said Friday.
DataPath offers commercial and military Ka-band terminals to access GX and has developed a kit that aims to assist customers working to transition to Inmarsat’s commercial frequencies, the report said.
“We are eager to begin serving our customers high-throughput satellite services from Inmarsat Global Xpress paired with both new systems and upgrade kits for the terminals,” said President and CEO of DataPath David Myers.
Inmarsat Government, a U.S. subsidiary of the U.K.-based satellite service provider, announced an agreement with DataPath in July to provide the GX satellite service to military and government customers in the U.S.
