Accenture has received a two-year contract from the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to assist the agency in creating a policy framework on the collection and management of patient-reported information.
The company said Monday it aims to help ONC identify strategies for healthcare organizations to use patient-generated health data for care delivery and clinical research efforts.
PGHD refers to health-related information collected through patient surveys, structured questionnaires and wearable mobile technology devices, according to the management consulting services firm.
“Not only can patient-generated health data offer an opportunity to capture needed information for use during care… but it can provide a more comprehensive picture of ongoing patient health,” said Mary Edwards, civilian health leader at Accenture’s federal services business.
Accenture will also coordinate and oversee the testing of a PGHD policy framework for ONC.
The initiative is part of ONC’s efforts to increase clinician-patient relationships and protect the integrity of medical records, Accenture noted.
