A new Dell survey has found that 82 percent of federal information technology personnel say their agencies use the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity in efforts to improve security of computer networks.
The NIST cybersecurity framework aims to help agencies “identify, detect, protect, respond and recover from cyber threats,†Paul Christman, vice president of the federal business in Dell’s software segment, said Tuesday.
Dell commissioned Dimensional Research to carry out the survey, which asked more than 150 information technology professionals in the federal government for their views on cyber efforts at agencies.
Sixty-eight percent of IT respondents said they use the framework to make improvements to their organizational security, while nearly 75 percent of government agencies utilize the document to develop their cybersecurity roadmaps.
Nearly 85 percent of respondents believe their organizations are equipped with guidance and resources necessary to protect their IT infrastructures from insider threats.
NIST’s framework is a voluntary risk-based set of best practices and industry standards that work to help organizations mitigate cybersecurity risks.
