MTSIModern Technology Solutions Inc. has obtained the Federal Aviation Administration’s approval to operate commercial unmanned aerial systems in U.S. civilian airspace.

The authorization permits MTSI’s C-ASTRAL Bramor rTK drone to fly up to 200 feet over land and throughout the U.S., MTSI said Monday.

Bramor is designed to perform mapping and surveying operations for a maximum duration of two-and-a-half hours and carry digital cameras.

“We are working on turning the terabytes of Bramor data into cloud accessible imagery products,” said Paul Linnell, director of MTSI’s national security division, civil and commercial small UAS team.

“Alongside imagery products and maps, novel algorithms are also actively under development to extract features from the thousands of acres that this aircraft covers during each flight,” Linnell added.
