Vormetric and IANS have released a joint report that indicates a growing appetite among information security professionals for encryption as a security strategy.
Eighty-four of the 100 respondents from the professional security field look to encrypt all sensitive data of their organization, Vormetric said Tuesday.
“Modern encryption solutions enable organizations to not only safeguard traditional applications, but also to take advantage of cloud, [software-as-a-service], [Internet of Things] and big data without incurring new risks to data,†said Tina Stewart, Vormetric vice president of global marketing.
“As a result, encryption is now a critical driver of lower operational costs as well as the rapid development of new services and offerings for competitive advantage and market expansion,†added Stewart.
Data security professionals cited data breaches, compliance and financial asset protection as their top reasons for seeking to implement encryption on all information.
Survey respondents said they have started to encrypt data within databases, computers, emails, private cloud platforms and big data ecosystems.
Encryption challenges cited in the report are legacy systems, cost of encryption and performance impact.
