The U.S. Air Force has asked industry for concepts to cool a fighter aircraft’s electronic system under a project that could be worth $24 million, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Tuesday.
John Keller writes the Air Force Research Laboratory released a broad agency announcement that seeks new electronics thermal management methods for aircraft from industry.
Up to six companies could receive orders under the hybrid-cycle power and thermal management system project through 2019, according to the report.
The electronics cooling techniques are meant to combine air-cycle, vapor-cycle, chilled fuel and other thermal energy storage methods, Keller reports.
The Air Force aims to address electronics cooling requirements with heat sinks, the report says.
