Seventy-seven percent of more than 24,000 responding consumers worldwide told an Accenture-commissioned survey that they want to try methods other than the username/password authentication mechanism to access their online accounts.
Accenture said Monday it conducted the online poll in October and November 2014 and asked the participants from 24 countries about their views on digital trust and Internet of Things.
The survey indicates only 46 percent of respondents are confident the personal data they share online is secured.
Robin Murdoch, managing director of Accenture’s Internet and social business segment, said he forecasts consumers will embrace the use of traditional one-step passwords in conjunction with fingerprint recognition or multifactor device verification tools in the near future.
Murdoch added he believes more companies will use analytics to gain insights from consumer data as well as offer IoT technology and service offerings.
