Littoral-Combat-ShipThe U.S. Navy has maneuvered its USS Freedom littoral combat ship into a dry dock to undergo system repairs and modifications, DoD Buzz reported Wednesday.

Kris Osborn writes Capt. Scott Pratt, Navy program manager for LCS fleet introduction and sustainment, told Military.com that maintenance work on the Lockheed Martin-built USS Freedom is due to last for three to four months.

Pratt added the military service intends to update the vessel’s servers, computer networks, software, sea water cooling system, air compressor, satellite communications antenna and other technologies during the dry-docking period.

The Navy launched USS Freedom in 2013 and has used the ship for the branch’s patrol operations in the South China Sea, according to DoD Buzz.

Pratt expects the Navy to redeploy the vessel in the latter half of 2016, the report said.
