An AtHoc–MDreieck alliance has helped the Mexican government build and implement an emergency communication system to alert residents before an earthquake occurs.
The Mexican Seismic Alert System worked to detect the magnitude 5.5 earthquake that hit Oaxaca on April 28 and sent automated alerts through Seismic Alert Radio System receivers and school public address systems, AtHoc said Thursday.
Efraim Petel, vice president of public safety at AtHoc, said the company’s technology helped capture data from seismic sensors in real time.
The company designed its platform to deliver text and voice notifications about potential hazards to people via desktops, smartphones, radios, sirens and electronic signs.
Mexican agencies tested the AtHoc mass communication system during a September 2014 demonstration that involved more than 10 million citizens.
