A new Frost & Sullivan analysis says that worldwide connectivity, urbanization and digital convergence of information technology systems are likely to spur the demand for Internet of Things and cloud-based platforms in smart buildings.
Anirudh Bhaskaran, energy and environmental research analyst at Frost & Sullivan, said Tuesday data generated by interconnected devices from different building departments must be subjected to processing and analysis.
“This demand for enhanced analytics support plays a pivotal role in driving the adoption of IoT in smart buildings,†he said.
The report also noted that the smart building industry should come up with new business models and new platforms to address challenges to IoT adoption, including the lack of data security standards and low-power devices.
Bhaskaran added that partnerships with IoT providers and consortiums will help promote advancements in IoT-based devices and software platforms.
“Collaboration between large [building technology] and IoT providers will also be the key to developing cloud-based analytics and drawing out the full potential of IoT.”
