Cisco and Kansas City, Missouri have agreed to launch a framework that aims to further help carry out the delivery of public services through what the company calls “smart city” applications.
Cisco said Monday it has tapped Sprint to build and oversee a Wi-Fi network that will work to connect applications for the Smart+Connected Communities platform.
The company will also collaborate with city officials and other firms to develop and implement later this year a data portal, smart water system, digital kiosks, smart lighting and other technologies for the initial phase of the connectivity framework.
“It’s exciting to see forward looking cities like Kansas City driving innovations that enable cities to connect people, process, data and things, and bring the Internet of Everything to life,” said Wim Elfrink, executive vice president of industry solutions group and chief globalization officer at Cisco.
“We’re pleased to be part of the team that will deploy a Smart+Connected City framework.â€
Companies that will work with Cisco on the project include CityPost, Black & Veatch, Sensity Systems, Think Big Partners and World Wide Technology.Â
