Lockheed Martin has awarded a subcontract to L-3 Communications to equip the U.K. defense ministry’s Desert Hawk III DDL digital platform with the MICRO Secure Digital Data Link.
The companies said Dec. 1 that L-3’s MICRO SDDL will support communications for the small unmanned aircraft system’s command-and-control and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations.
Kevin Westfall, director of LM MST’s unmanned solutions business, said that the company has previously worked with L-3 on the Desert Hawk III program.
MICRO SDDL works to operate with a single radio-frequency channel to provide an IP-based, two-way TDMA communications link.
