TALON-with-VLP16-LiDARVelodyne Lidar plans to integrate its remote sensing technology onto a QinetiQ North America-built unmanned ground system for a demonstration at an upcoming robotics conference in Boston.

The companies will showcase Velodyne’s VLP-16 LiDAR Puck sensor mounted on QinetiQ NA’s TALON robot at the RoboBusiness forum to be held at Hynes Convention Center from Oct. 15 to 17, Velodyne said Tuesday.

QinetiQ NA designed the TALON remotely operated vehicle for law enforcement, military and emergency response usage.

Wolfgang Juchmann, sales and marketing director at Velodyne, said the robot works to help soldiers combat improvised explosive devices and keep them from being exposed to hazardous materials.

The company says its LiDAR technology is built to capture 16 channels of sensor data in real-time and has low-power consumption and protective design features.

Velodyne has set a $7,999 introductory price for the three-dimensional LiDAR product.
