electronic health record EHRTeleCommunication Systems has developed a new video telemedicine platform for healthcare providers and workers in a North Carolina-based independent emergency medicine group to remotely consult with more than 300,000 patients per year.

TCS said Monday that the Wake Emergency Physicians, PA group will be the first healthcare organization to implement TCS’ VirtuMedix platform and the company will demonstrate the technology at the American College of Emergency Physicians’ ACEP14 conference in Chicago Monday through Thursday.

Jay Whitehurst, president of TCS’ commercial business group, said the company built VirtuMedix to answer “market demand for immediate, patient-centric, mobile and web access to medical services anytime, anywhere and on any network connected device.”

“WEPPA was looking for an off-the-shelf solution that could be tailored to the needs of our emergency medicine physicians and help us to stay in front of the many changes in the healthcare marketplace,” said Dr. Bobby Park of WEPPA.

TCS built encryption, navigation, mapping and messaging technologies into the platform and installed other features to help clinicians manage workflows and patient volume, as well as to view on-call rosters.

An electronic medical records system in VirtuMedix works to display patient records and help produce invoices for insurance claims.

VirtuMedix also contains an interface to communicate with patients in more than one language.
