Huntington Ingalls Industries unit Ingalls Shipbuilding is set to hold a christening ceremony for the Legend-class National Security Cutter James (WMSL 754) over the weekend, with U.S. Coast Guard Vice Commandant Vice Adm. Peter Neffenger scheduled as the keynote speaker
The event will be held on Saturday at the Ingalls Shipbuilding Visitor Control Center, a day after Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Cuccias, Capt. Andrew Tiongson, James prospective commanding officer, and the James shipbuilding team meet with members of the press, HIIÂ said Tuesday.
James was built at the company’s Pascagoula shipyard and is the fifth of its kind after the Bertholf (WMSL 750), Waesche (WMSL 751), Stratton (WMSL 752) and Hamilton (WMSL 753).
Other guests at the christening include Rep. Steven Palazzo, R-Miss., and ship sponsor Charlene James Benoit, great-great niece of the vessel’s namesake, Capt. Joshua James of the U.S. Life-Saving Service.
