SoftLayer has announced the opening of a new data center in Toronto as part of the IBM cloud company’s $1.2 billion investment to expand its presence worldwide.
According to SoftLayer CEO Lance Crosby, there is a need to provide a local facility for the growing number of Canadian enterprises that require cloud service solutions.
“We have hundreds of existing Canadian customers that can now have SoftLayer services deployed closer to home, and thousands of customers that will take advantage of the facility to get closer to end users in this market,†Crosby said Tuesday.
Softlayer said the Toronto hub, its first data center in the country, will service the financial and public sector industries, with a capacity to house over 15,000 server hardware.
