Battelle holds a position on a potential five-year, $300 million contract to help the U.S. Army develop and test munitions, explosive detectors, mobile robots and other military systems.
The Army selected Battelle as one of seven contractors for the branch’s Rapid Prototyping and Technology Insertion program, the company said Tuesday.
A Battelle-led industry team and the Army have worked to update 40-millimeter grenade designs under a project aimed at making the weapon easier to produce with fewer components.
In a separate project, company scientists and engineers analyzed the manufacturing process for machine guns and other small arms weapons.
Battelle professionals also reviewed materials and quality assurance metrics used in military weapons production and recommended measures to help the Army resolve development issues.
