Lockheed Martin will work to apply its existing wind measurement system to develop airdrop technology for the U.S. Air Force’s C-130 and C-17 aircrews.
Lockheed will adapt its WindTracer system in order to design a Precision Air Drop prototype unit for demonstration at a U.S. ground forces test site, Lockheed Martin said Thursday.
The WindTracer technology works to measure wind velocity by processing light signals with varying frequency.
Lockheed will also work to fit the WindTracer into a pallet and equip it with shock-proof system.
