Iridium Communications will demonstrate a NAL Research-built tracking device that provides position and location information as part of the U.S. Army‘s Network Integration Evaluation process for commercial communications technology.
The company said Monday the Enhanced Mobile Satellite System Beacon is designed to support geo-fencing and integration with the Nett Warrior system to track military personnel and assets in the battlefield.
“We’re proposing to close a beyond-line-of-sight gap in the communications network by providing soldiers with a proven, affordable technology that will help keep them safe anywhere on the planet,” said Ken Flowers, vice president for government solutions at Iridium.
According to Ngoc Hoang, president of Iridium partner NAL Research, the company manufactured the EMSS Beacon considering size, weight and power, as Iridium provides the satellite network, to meet the Army’s needs.
Iridium has an ongoing contract to provide the Defense Department and federal partners with unlimited EMSS airtime.
