cisco_GovConWireCisco has deployed technology at Transwestern Property Management‘s Pennzoil Plaza in Houston to help turn the 39-year-old building into an “infrastructure of the future” with a centralized management system that includes energy consumption controls.

According to a video posted Thursday on the Cisco website, the “Internet of Everything” applied to infrastructure management systems has brought efficiency in operations.

“We’ve been able to leverage the Internet of Everything to respond to tenant request faster and analyze and predict problems we may have in the building because we have everything at our fingertips,” said Roger Vasquez, director of engineering at Transwestern.

Ben Quinton, a senior property manager at the real estate firm, added that systems integration for tenants now takes only three days compared to the previous six to eight weeks.

One key system deployed in the building enables energy load shedding by 20% in seven minutes, according to Cisco.

“You can’t raise any temperature [by] two degrees in the building; people would notice that. So you’re cutting back power by half a point here and there, and the whole combined effect of all that power being reduced is where you get your load shed,” said Quinton.

Cisco said Pennzoil Plaza uses 95,000 sensors connected in a single infrastructure to manage power consumption across the 1.4 million sq ft property.
