Thales will install its electronic interlocking technology for HAROPA – Port of Le Havre in a project to upgrade the port’s 3R mechanical interlocking system’s rail signalling system.
Thales said Thursday this is its third electronic interlocking system contract with the port and new work will include preliminary studies, supply, installation, testing and user training.
“To support the growth in traffic volumes, we are making a concerted effort to upgrade the rail infrastructure at the port,” said Christian Feuvre, director of the HAROPA rail network.
According to Feuvre, Thales provided Le Havre’s first computer-based interlocking system in 2008 and conducted another installation at Port 2000.
Thales expects the new LockTrac PIPCÂ installation to be operational by June 2015 and bolster route control and rail network management as freight volumes continue to increase.
The Port of Le Havre has the largest container traffic and international freight activity in France and comprises of 124 miles of track, 350 signals and six signal control centers managing at least 250 routes.
HAROPA manages logistics for the Port of Le Havre as well as the ports of Rouen and Paris.
