General Dynamics’ C4 systems business unit has been awarded a $59 million contract to update the software system for the U.S. Army’s information network vehicles.
The Warfighter Information Network – Tactical Increment 2 will feature soldier network extension and point-of-presence vehicles, General Dynamics said Thursday.
General Dynamics C4 Systems developed the WIN-T Increment 2 network software based in part on feedback from U. S. troops returning from Afghanistan.
Soldiers will undergo training on how to use the vehicles at the LandWarNet School in Fort Gordon, Ga.
“They and other soldiers training on Increment 2 will experience firsthand how operating the system is easier and more closely resembles the way they interact with their computers and digital accessories at home,†said Chris Marzilli, president of General Dynamics C4 Systems.
“Warrant Officers are trained as the technical experts who ensure the mobile, WIN-T Increment 2 network is operating as it should,” he added.
The Army will distribute the WIN-T Increment 2 software systems to the 101st air assault division in Fort Campbell, Ky., as well as to the second and third brigade combat teams with the 82nd airborne division in Fort Bragg, N.C.
General Dynamics incorporated two-channel Manpack and Rifleman radios into the network vehicles.
