Cubic Transportation Systems will help 12 suburban transit agencies in the San Francisco Bay Area implement a new fare card payment system under a $7.5 million contract modification.
The company said Wednesday it will install the Clipper fare collection equipment on buses, retail devices, handheld card readers for payment inspection and wireless networks for data connectivity with bus garages.
“We look forward to implementing the next phase of the vision: a trans-regional multi-modal transit payment system using a common card back office and customer service system,” said Matt Newsome, senior vice president and general manager for the Americas region at Cubic Transportation Systems.
Clipper smart cards are designed for use on buses, light-rail vehicles, at rail stations and at ferry terminals.
East Bay and North Bay operators that will adopt Clipper over the next two years include:
