IBM will seek the help of software developers worldwide to make mobile applications that use Watson’s data analysis and machine learning tools, Wired reported Feb. 26.
Klint Finley writes that the IBM Watson Mobile Developer Challenge will kick off March 31 and the company will select 25 finalists to use Watson’s developer application programming interface in order to develop working software.
Ginni Rometty, IBM CEO, announced the initiative at the Mobile World Congress tradeshow in Barcelona, Finley reports.
Contest winners will have access to free consulting services from IBM and the company will help bring new apps from the challenge to market, according to Wired.
Finley reports IBM is investing $1 billion into Watson as part of the company’s push into the open source and big data arenas.
