Newport News Shipbuilding has won an economic impact award from the Economics Club of Hampton for its $5.5 billion economic contribution in the Norfolk, Va. area.
The Huntington Ingalls Industries business unit was given the award at a March 21 luncheon at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott, the company announced Friday.
“We are fortunate to live in, work in and contribute toward the Hampton Roads region, one of Virginia’s strongest and most robust economies,” said Matt Mulherin, Newport News president.
Established in 1991, the Economic Club of Hampton Roads is a group of companies that advocate for practical implications of economic principles, trends and events.
