Boeing has awarded an 18-month follow-on subcontract to Harris Corp. to build Ka-band antennas for a fourth satellite under Inmarsat‘s Global Xpress mobile broadband service program.
Harris will supply Boeing with antennas designed to transmit signals from an Inmarsat satellite in orbit and enable wireless connectivity on deep-sea vessels and passenger aircraft, Harris said Monday.
The Global Xpress network is scheduled to reach full satellite coverage by the end of this year.
The subcontract award was announced at the ongoing 2014 Satellite conference and exhibition in Washington.
Harris also designs and builds mesh reflectors, gimbaled dish systems and phrased array antennas for government and commercial satellites.
