Siemens’ energy business unit has been selected to build two steam engines and components for a power plant in Turkey, Penn Energy reported Thursday.
The steam turbines and auxiliary systems will be supplied to the Soma Kolin power plant being constructed by Chinese company Harbin Electric International Co. Ltd. in Turkey’s western province of Manisa, according to the report.
The lignite-fueled facility, slated for commercial operation in April 2017, is comprised of two units that are designed to generate 510 megawatts in combined power, the report says.
“This is the first order for large steam turbines that we have received from a Chinese company,” Wilfried Ulm, CEO the steam turbines business unit at Siemens Energy, told the publication.
The engines are scheduled for delivery beginning in August 2015 through January 2016, reports Penn Energy.
