Inmarsat will work with Northrop Grumman to monitor the satellite services provider’s mobile commercial satellite wideband network, detect signal interference and address other problems for the service’s government users and network operators.
Northrop’s Spectrum Interference and Monitoring System has graphical reporting tools and a user interface designed to perform situational awareness and problem resolution work on the Inmarsat Global Xpress network, Inmarsat said Monday.
GX uses Ka-band frequencies for high-bandwidth connections.
Peter Hadinger, president of Inmarsat’s U.S. government business unit, said SIMS is based on the spectrum monitoring system Northrop deployed for the Defense Department’s Wideband Global System.
Inmarsat indicated the full worldwide coverage of the three GX satellites is scheduled to start by the end of 2014.
