The Philippines intends to purchase 14 BAE Systems-built M113 armored personnel carriers by 2015 as part of a $1.9 billion defense modernization program, United Press International reported Thursday.
UPI reports Philippine Army spokesman Capt. Anthony Bacus said the Asian nation’s M113 armored fleet will be designed with fire control systems, thermal imaging equipment and 76-millimeter turrets.
BAE’s systems land and armaments manufacture the M113 carriers, according to the article.
The Philippine government purchased M1114, M939 and M35 military vehicles from the U.S. last year, the report states.
