Lockheed Martin has conducted a simulation test to validate the configured software of a vertical launching system for the U.S. Navy‘s long range anti-ship missile.
The new interface worked to prepare and launch Lockheed-built LRASM weapon from the MK 41 vertical launcher during the demonstration, Lockheed said Wednesday.
“This recent test demonstrates the low-risk and low-cost of launching LRASM from a ship, and was made possible by a cross-company team effort,” said Glenn Kuller, vice president of advanced and special programs for Lockheed’s missiles and fire control business.
“This program success helps pave the way for rapid fielding of a surface launch capability, meeting our warfighters’ critical needs,” Kuller added.
LRASM will undergo surface-launch testing on the USS Desert Ship at White Sands Missile Range this year.
The program is a collaboration between the Defense Advanced Research Project Agency
and the Office of Naval Research.
