Boeing, Etihad Airways, Takreer, Total and the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology have partnered to develop a biofuel supply chain framework for the United Arab Emirates’ aviation industry.
The BIOjet Abu Dhabi team will perform research and development work, invest in feedstock production and aim to refine technologies for the UAE and global markets, Boeing said Sunday.
“Boeing works with partners around the world to advance sustainable biofuel development and sees great opportunity for BIOjet Abu Dhabi to have a positive impact in the UAE and globally,†said Jeffrey Johnson, president of Boeing Middle East.
Etihad Airways and Boeing are members of the Sustainable Bioenergy Research Consortium, which develops salt-tolerant plants that are designed to help refine renewable fuel.
The airline recently demonstrated the aviation biofuel on a Boeing 777, while Total converted the fuel from plants and Takreer refined the product into biofuel.
