The U.S. Space Force plans to launch a solicitation for commercial satellite communications services in support of the U.S. military and various government entities. USSF said Wednesday in a request for information notice that its Commercial Satellite Communications Office seeks proliferated low Earth orbit services that can facilitate data transfers with a maximum latency of 50 milliseconds.

The Department of Energy will invest $29 million in new technologies that would help analysts process large volumes of information via artificial intelligence and similar approaches. DOE said Friday it seeks new AI, machine learning, algorithms and other analytical tools that may support national security, climate and clean energy research.

CEA Space Partners I, a special purpose acquisition company led by satellite industry veteran Edward Horowitz, plans to launch an initial public offering to raise $250 million in funds. The Tampa, Florida-based company intends to offer 25 million units consisting of a share of Class A common stock and a third of one redeemable warrant at a price of $10 per unit with plans to have them listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “CEAS.U,” according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

Former Google CEO Eric Schmidt said the U.S. government and the technology industry must develop new approaches for artificial intelligence (AI), microelectronics and other critical military innovations to maintain technology advantage over China, C4ISRNET reported Friday. Speaking at the National Defense Industrial Association’s National Security Artificial Intelligence Conference, Schmidt noted that China has been investing in emerging technology and that the U.S. needs to take a more assertive role in tech development.

Collins Aerospace, a company of Raytheon Technologies, has manufactured the 600th Thrust Vector Actuation (TVA) System for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile system. The company said Thursday the TVA is an all-electric component that has guided all of THAAD's live fire intercept activities so far. The component has also demonstrated capabilities needed for future missile weapon systems.

Idemia will use one of its smartphone-based products to digitize driver's license and other state-issued identification cards of Arizona residents. The company said Thursday its Mobile ID technology is designed to enable users to store a digital version of these IDs in a smartphone application.
