The U.S. Army’s Project Manager Close Combat Systems (PM CCS) announced on April 12 it is seeking companies capable of developing prototypes of new Terrain Shaping Obstacle, or TSO, Top Attack. According to its sources sought notice, the prototype mines must have a remote control feature and top attack capabilities that are effective against tanks. Interested companies have until May 14 to respond to the solicitation.

Boeing's Aurora Flight Sciences subsidiary, XTEND and ELTA North America participated in a Department of Defense-led demonstration initiative for technologies designed to counter enemy's small unmanned aircraft systems. The U.S. Army said Wednesday its Rapid Capabilities and Critical Technologies Office worked with the Air Force and the Joint Counter-sUAS Office to host tests at Yuma Proving Ground in Arizona from April 5 to 9.

The Space Development Agency has issued a request for information on potential vendors that could design and build optical communications terminals for the first tranche of the National Defense Space Architecture’s transport layer. The latest RFI came a week after SDA sought industry feedback on the design and development of space vehicles for NDSA’s Tranche 1 Transport Layer, which will deliver initial warfighting capability to service personnel via persistent regional access to low-latency data transport services.

Boeing expects the U.S. Army to award a first production contract for the new variant of its CH-47 Chinook helicopter in fiscal year 2021, Defense News reported Thursday. “At this time, we really see no technical or programmatic challenges standing in the way of rewarding the Lot 1 production contract this fiscal year,” Heather McBryan, Boeing’s director of global sales and marketing, said of the CH-47F Block II variant. “We’ve been working closely with the Army to lay out a plan to meet all of our milestones and show a low-risk path to a first unit equipped in 2025, which was, you know, as planned originally."
