TYSONS CORNER, VA, November 12, 2020 — Tony Frazier, executive vice president of global field operations at Maxar Technologies and four-time Wash100 awardee, recently announced the appointment of Jon Love, former head of public sector partner development at Microsoft, as the space technology company's VP of strategic growth, GovCon Wire reported Nov. 4.

Maxar Technologies has reported more than 200 subscribers for its cloud-based geospatial service that provides access to high-resolution satellite imagery for monitoring and mapping activities.

Tony Frazier, executive vice president of global field operations at Maxar Technologies and a four-time Wash100 awardee, said the company uses commercial technology advancements to help the U.S. government manage national security operations and address various threats from near peer competitors, the ongoing global health crisis and extreme weather events.

Maxar Technologies has been awarded a potential eight-year, $49 million, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract by the U.S. Army Geospatial Center to deliver portable, direct-downlink tactical ground systems that will provide critical geospatial intelligence to users in remote locations. The contract includes two initial task orders worth a combined $8 million.

Walter Scott, chief technology officer of Maxar Technologies and a previous Wash100 awardee, said the company’s acquisition of 3D data and analytics company Vricon “enables a whole range of use cases,” Inside Defense reported Monday.

Maxar Technologies has appointed Jim McClelland as head of the company’s mission architecture function, reporting to Maxar chief technology officer (CTO) Dr. Walter Scott, Maxar reported on Thursday.

Maxar Technologies collaborated with Amazon Web Services to build a cloud-based computing technology designed to accelerate processing of global weather data at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, SiliconANGLE reported Tuesday. “We knew NOAA had capabilities of weather prediction models in traditional on-premises, big beefy high-performance supercomputers, but we wanted to do it in the cloud; we wanted to use AWS as a key partner,” said Travis Hartman, director of analytics and weather at Maxar.

Northrop Grumman has unveiled plans for the central module of NASA’s Lunar Gateway, including the module’s planned launch with Maxar Technologies’ Power and Propulsion Element from a spaceport in Florida by 2023, the NASASpaceflight website reported Friday.
