Westminster, Colo.-based Maxar will produce and demonstrate the first element of the space agency's lunar Gateway station under a potential $375M contract awarded in May.

Robert Lightfoot, vice president of strategy and business development at Lockheed Martin's space segment, has been appointed chairman of the Alabama Space Grant Consortium's Industrial Advisory Board, according to the University of Alabama at Huntsville. Lightfoot joined Lockheed in early May and oversees strategic planning efforts across space technology programs.

Maxar Technologies will help NASA research future systems which will aim to improve the agency’s existing space communications architecture. The resulting technology is intended to provide support for scientific and exploration missions starting in the mid-2020s in Earth orbit, on the moon and across the solar system.

Maxar Technologies has completed a preliminary design review of spacecraft being developed to help NASA explore the metallic 16 Psyche asteroid for the first time and gain insight into how planet Earth formed.

Lockheed Martin has completed the final version of a 13-foot-wide habitat prototype designed to support NASA’s deep space missions, Orlando Sentinel reported Thursday. The company developed the habitat at Kennedy Space Center in Florida based on the refurbished Donatello Multi-Purpose Logistics Module and as part of NASA’s Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships contract.
