The National Institute of Standards and Technology‘s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence is seeking public comment on its draft guide for securing medical and patient information on mobile devices.
NIST said Thursday the “Securing Electronic Records on Mobile Devices” document is the first in a series of publications providing guidance on the use of open source, standards-based or commercially available tools for cybersecurity.
“This guide can help providers protect critical patient information without getting in the way of delivering quality care,” said NCCoE Director Donna Dodson.
“This guide can be an important tool among the many they use to reduce risk.”
NIST added that NCCoE worked with cybersecurity experts from industry and academia as well as healthcare and technology providers on cooperative research and development programs to build privacy and security measures for mobile devices interacting with electronic health record systems.
Comments on the draft guide are due Sept. 25, the agency said.
