BAE Systems Plc seeks to place a bid for Germany’s planned combat ship contract, Big News Network reported Saturday.
The company plans to modify its British Royal Navy Type 26 frigate in order to conform to Germany’s naval ship standards, according to the report.
The German Defense Ministry is set to ask industry sources to design a 7,500-metric-ton multirole combat ship called MKS180, the report says.
Big News Network reports the contract is for four MKS180s built, with options for additional two vessels.
“German teams have been over here, and there has been ministerial discussion,†the report quoted Geoff Searle, the Type 26 program director at BAE, as saying.
