Raytheon logo_EbizRaytheon has shipped the initial hardware it built for the operational control technology of the U.S. Air Force’s global positioning system.

The company said Thursday GPS OCX is designed to oversee the movements and capabilities of GPS satellites during ground, naval and aerial missions and safeguard the equipment from potential cyber threats.

The Colorado-based Schriver Air Force Base, which received the hardware shipment, will house the master control facility for GPS OCX, the company reported.

“Delivery and testing of the hardware represents a key milestone for the OCX program, as it supports next year’s acceptance of the OCX Launch and Checkout System for the GPS III satellites,” said Matt Gilligan, GPS OCX program manager at Raytheon.air-force-tile-ad

LCS is a component of the OCX ground platform that works to support the launch of GPS III satellites.

Following the delivery, Raytheon will conduct installation work and subject the hardware to audit and assurance testing.
