The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency has launched a new program for commercial application developers to use unclassified geospatial data in efforts to create new mapping applications.
NGA said Monday applications developed under the Innovative GEOINT Application Provider Program will be available for download via the agency’s GEOINT App Store.
TASC, a subsidiary of Engility, will manage and operate the program for NGA under a four-year, $25 million contract that covers one base year and up to three option years.
IGAPP is designed as a broker between vendors and the government to acquire geospatial mapping applications through the GEOINT App store.
“NGA is committed to opening its content, creatively partnering with industry, and delivering applications that are valued by our customers,” said Joedy Saffel, IGAPP’s program lead at NGA.
Engility President and CEO Tony Smeraglinolo said in a separate release that the program works to produce “air, land and sea navigation information, as well as mapping and infrastructure imagery that would provide critical information in emergency situations.”
The agency and company will present IGAPP at the Apps World Conference Tuesday through Wednesday in San Francisco, as well as at the GEOINT Symposium June 22 through June 25 in Washington.
