Morgan County in Ohio has selected Oracle to deploy its communication service for the  9-1-1 emergency system with the goal of helping the local government secure its Internet protocol-based infrastructure.
Morgan County implemented the Oracle communications session border controller to protect the 9-1-1 service against denial-of-service attacks, service overloads and failures, Oracle said Monday.
Steve Aulds, vice president of product development at Oracle Communications, said the company intends for the project to help Morgan County ensure that the communications infrastructure is secure and scalable.
“With the new IP-based technology available today, the potential is huge for the public sector, but it’s critical to incorporate the right security and reliability safeguards as well,†Aulds added.
General Dynamics Information Technology developed the 9-1-1 system in July 2014 for responders, dispatchers and agencies to receive emergency service requests from public networks using voice, messaging and video devices.
