Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Navy are set to launch the third Mobile User Objective System satellite on Tuesday from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
The satellite system will take off on board a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket, Lockheed said Monday.
ULA says the 44-minute launch window will begin at 7:43 p.m. Eastern time.
“To deliver a satellite like MUOS is no small task and the team worked around the clock and through every holiday,†said Iris Bombelyn, vice president of narrowband communications at Lockheed.
“The launch of MUOS-3, and the near-term certification of our fourth and final Radio Access Facility, brings us to the brink of the global coverage we anticipate for MUOS communications,†Bombelyn added.
The MUOS is built for users to transmit and receive voice and mission data on an Internet Protocol-based system.
MUOS satellites carry two payloads for access to ultra-high frequency narrowband communications.
