Lockheed Martin has launched a cloud-based version of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency’s interactive Map of the World application in a move to link Earth’s features and intelligence observations in real time.
This map works to show manmade and natural changes to the surface of or beneath the planet and be searchable on the map for users through the Amazon Web Services commercial cloud services platform, Lockheed said Monday.
Jason O’Connor, vice president of analysis and mission solutions at Lockheed’s IS&GS business, said the commercial cloud setup seeks to offer agility for defense and intelligence geospatial initiatives.
“Deploying geospatial mission applications and software to a commercial cloud environment… demonstrates the power of what can be done by leveraging cloud technologies with mission-driven software,” O’Connor said.
Lockheed indicated that the deployment was carried out with its Geospatial-Intelligence Visualization Services program and in compliance with ICD-503 risk management guidelines.
