Redstone Defense Systems has selected Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) to modernize the digital cockpit of the U.S. Army‘s new fleet of Black Hawk helicopters.
Northrop will work to produce and integrate the avionics system of UH-60L Black Hawk helicopters in order to replace analog gauges of the legacy model, Northrop said Friday.
“We are committed to this critical upgrade program that will prolong the life of the UH-60 while keeping warfighters safer by enhancing their situational awareness,” said Ike Song, vice president of situational awareness systems at Northrop Grumman.
Northrop’s avionics system has a centralized processor and a modular operational flight program with a software-only architecture for installing new updates.
The company designed the technology to comply with the Future Airborne Capability Environment standard.
