Creative Microsystems Corp. has been awarded a two-year, $2.7 million contract to design and build lightweight night-vision goggles for the U.S. Navy, Military $ Aerospace Electronics reported Thursday.
John Keller writes the Naval Research Laboratory plans to award the research contract for the development of the Micro Optic Low Light Imager project.
Waitsfield, Vt.-based Creative Microsystems will work to reduce the size of the new night-vision goggles compared to the existing AN/PVS-31 binocular, according to the report.
The goggles are intended to feature a low-light-amplification system that is responsive to visible, near infrared and shortwave infrared light bands, the report says.
Keller writes CMC engineers will develop a hybrid-electro-optic imaging application to combine various scene elements into a single image.
The Navy wants the new design concept to minimize high-scale manufacturing costs, reports Military $ Aerospace Electronics.
