Raytheon‘s Standard Missile-3 Block IB has recently been deployed by the U.S. Navy and the Missile Defense Agency as part of the Phased Adaptive Approach’s second phase.
Taylor Lawrence, president of Raytheon Missile Systems, said Sunday the completion and results of operational testing for the SM-3 Block IB is intended to boost ballistic missile countermeasures.
The 2015 deployment of the SM-3 will be performed at Romania’s Aegis Ashore site opened in 2013, which provides ballistic missile coverage of NATO member nations.
An Aegis Ashore test of the SM-3 Block IB and the latest Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense Weapons System will be held sometime this year at the Pacific Missile Range Facility in Hawaii.
