Alion Science and Technology has received a $17.7 million task order to help the U.S. Defense Department research and develop new systems intended to protect soldiers against improvised explosive devices.
The company will also provide technology prototyping, engineering and scientific services to DoD under the IED countermeasures project, Alion said Tuesday.
“The services we will provide under the task order will enable the DoD to detect and neutralize explosive hazards wherever our forces are deployed,†said Terri Spoonhour, Alion group senior vice president and manager of the distributed simulation group.
DoD’s anti-IED organization seeks to build personnel protection, wide area detection and mine clearance technologies.
Alion runs a weapons systems technology information analysis center that was built to deliver technical data to defense agencies and contractors.
