A Materion Corp. subsidiary is collaborating with Lockheed Martin to become a qualified supplier of aluminum-beryllium casting technology for the F-35 fighter jet’s electro-optical targeting system.
Materion Brush Beryllium & Composites produces aluminum-beryllium composites used in the F-35 EOTS and also seeks to offer its investment casting products to the Lockheed-led program, Materion said Thursday.
Jim Yurko, technology director at Materion, said aluminum-beryllium investment casts are designed for aerospace, defense and precision industrial tool applications.
The company partnered with the Defense Department to increase production of beryllium-based composites for defense equipment at the firm’s Elmore, Ohio facility.
