Indiana’s Revenue Department has contracted LexisNexis Risk Solutions to help combat identify theft and tax refund fraud in the state.
The company plans to use filters to screen requests for tax refunds, checking the ID information against public databases and other sources as part of the verification process, said Wednesday.
“Identity-based tax refund fraud causes individuals to spend countless hours trying to legitimately claim their refunds and even more time trying to reclaim their stolen identities,â€Â Haywood Talcove, CEO of government and special services at LexisNexis.
Under the contract, LexisNexis Risk Solutions will provide an identity authenticator, online identification quiz and other verification tools to Indiana for the upcoming 2014 tax season.
