DecisionPoint has secured a $50.9 million contract from the Department of the Air Force to provide technical support to its Mission Defense Teams providing specialized cybersecurity to mission systems across the service.
The contract’s tasks include assisting MDTs on defensive cyberspace operational enhancements at the tactical edge, the Maryland-based technology company said in a LinkedIn post. It added that the Air Force job also calls for enhancing the teams’ operational resilience and ensuring the mission capability of its integral IT system.
Team Evolution in Cyber Defense
Created in 2015 under the service’s Air Combat Command, the MDTs are evolving with the technological shifts in their domain, according to a report on the AFCEA Rocky Mountain Cyberspace Symposium in February 2023. The teams’ cyber defense is focused on protecting the Air Force’s warfighting components and infrastructure, including weather data, the report noted.
The MBTs’ operations run through a common weapon system and command-and-control platform. The formal training of MBTs is conducted at the Air Force bases in Little Rock and McGhee Tyson, with support from Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard.
A service-disabled veteran-owned small business, DecisionPoint maintains a Cybersecurity Center of Excellence in its services portfolio. It operates through a five-step approach to improve clients’ cyber defense and ensure compliance with government mandates.
