Amy Gilliland, president of General Dynamics‘ information technology business, has noted a 50 percent increase in the company’s investment in emerging technologies, research and development laboratories, strategic partnerships and workforce development programs, Breaking Defense reported Friday.
She told the publication in an interview that GDIT spent the past year testing its tech investment strategy in areas such as artificial intelligence, zero trust architecture, 5G, multicloud management and IT automation.
“Last year was sort of a ‘Let’s test the strategy and see how quickly we can develop these solutions and see if they are responsive to the requirements that our customers are sharing with us and that we’re seeing in their budgetary lines,'” said the six-time Wash100 Award recipient.
According to Gilliland, the strategy culminates lessons GDIT learned from the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
She said the company saw a need for the Pentagon and other customers to “digitally modernize and harden their environments sooner rather than later” as the cyberthreat landscape continues to evolve.
